The Vajrai Waterfalls is situated at a height of around 560 meters (1,840 feet), and is a pictorial waterfall located near the Sahyadri Mountains, close to Kass Plateau. The region is jam-packed with incredible natural beauty, along with a pleasant soothing climate throughout the year.

Normally, when one see this waterfall from a distance then it doesn’t seem to be a great waterfall, but when they reach near the waterfall and just have a look at it, only then they understand the enormity of it. The height of the waterfall being 1,840 feet falls from a straight cliff. The water for waterfall comes from the river Urmodi. It is origin of river Urmodi. The waterfall is perennial in nature, and hence you will hardly find it flowing throughout the year.

This waterfall is very famous and popular with tourists, and is one of tallest waterfalls in India. Its popularity has resulted in an immense fame for the Bhambavali village, and tourism has become a key business here for the local villagers.

This waterfall is a hub of beauty, nature and wild life along with some ancient holy places. Normally this waterfall enjoys great flow of water around the year, but during rainy seasons it gets stunning, with heavy water flow of water and the natural scenic beauty all around the waterfall.

To experience this true heaven on earth, one should certainly visit the falls at least once in lifetime. Bhambavali village is also famous due to religious factors associated with the Vajrai Waterfall. According to a local legend, the Marathi Saint Shri Samarth Ramdas Swami climbed this entire mountain in just 3 footsteps and due to this miracle the Vajrai Waterfall got converted into a ‘3 Stair Waterfall Mountain’. From that time onwards, the place is considered holy by the local tribe of the Bhambavali village.

Kune Falls is one of the main attractions in Khandala, and attracts attracts tourists in large numbers during the rainy season when the waterfall is in its peak and flows down with a huge gush.

Kune Waterfalls at the base

The exceptionally heavy rains at the hill station adds to the beauty of the place. In fact, the Kune Falls lasts for quite a few weeks even after the monsoon season is over. The serenity and the stunning beauty of the place is indescribable and must be experienced in person to fully understand the blessing that nature has bestowed on the valley in
absolute abundance.

Kune Waterfalls

During the monsoon, the adjoining areas turns into calm green landscape and the falls also turns into a milky white stream. The exceptional heavy rainfall in this area adds beauty and an extra charm to this place.

Youngsters enjoy themselves at the falls

The waterfall is centrally located in the Khandala- Lonavla valley and is a beautiful spot. Visitors from Mumbai can see the waterfall from a distance as they approach Khandala. Being a seasonal one, the falls will dwindle after about a month from the last rains.Near the falls, there is a well known Church, which acts as both a landmark for the falls plus a tourist attraction in itself.

Exotic flowers and plants near the falls

Because of the rains, there is a lot of water at Kune this time of the year. Visitors can just stand there for a while and absorb the greenery all around. If you love nature, this is the place for you and take as many pictures as you like. If you love trekking, then you might even do a small trek to the base of the waterfall as it would be an interesting hike.

A visitors gets his best Kodak moment.

Else relax once you have reached the falls, or better still, take a bath in the cold waters of the stream.

How to Reach Kune Falls

By Road:

Travelers from Mumbai can take the famous Mumbai-Pune expressway to reach Lonavala bypass. Local transport is available to travel to Khandala and from thereon to Kune.

The Kune Missionary Church is the landmark to look for. It is a tourist attraction in itself, so visitors can spend some time in the church before proceeding to Kune.

From the church, it takes just a short walk to reach Kune falls. Travelers from Pune can get down at Khandala and follow the same route. Kune Falls is on the old Mumbai-Pune Highway and not the new Mumbai – Pune Expressway.

By Rail:

The nearest Railway Station is Lonavala. If your coming from Mumbai or Pune, it’s better for tourists to alight at Lonavala Railway Station.

Lonavala Railway Station

From here they can take local transport(share rickshaws or bus) and reach the falls that is about 10 km away.

Rappelling at Kune Waterfalls

The lush greenery of Jawhar and its surrounding areas.

The quaint village of Jawhar is a hilly forested area at the edge of Sahyadris range with a comparatively sparse habitation. Every year with the monsoon setting in , the entire countryside is awash in lush greenery.

Dabhosa Waterfalls nestled in the beautiful jungle

But Dabhosa’s claim to fame is its waterfalls that lies a little less than a km out of the village. This is one of the highest waterfalls in Maharashtra near Mumbai.

The waterfalls are surrounded by straight mountains of height not less than 600 feet on both sides and are covered with medicinal plants. The surroundings are densely forested and provide a serene location for seclusion seeking travelers. The area is unpolluted and unspoiled without much modern developments and luxuries.

Dabhosa Waterfalls raging down during monsoon

During monsoons, the Dabhosa waterfall becomes a raging monster. Such is the force of the waterfalls, that the spray from it makes it is impossible to look towards the waterfall when you are standing close to it.

Even when you are 20-30 mt away, it feels like you are standing in front of a giant shower. In the monsoons, getting into the pond below is impossible as the waters churns angrily and waves hit the rocky banks like a rough sea. Just standing there and observing the falls is an exhilarating experience.

Youngsters enjoy themselves at the flowing stream at the base of the falls

This waterfall is a seasonal picnic spot and the best time to visit this fall is during the monsoons i.e. from June to September, as the flow of water is full-fledged.

Flying Fox or Zip Line in full swing at the falls.

It is an adventure spot hub where tourist can enjoy activities like Kayaking, Valley Crossing, Zip Line, Rappelling, Laddering, Trekking, Rock Climbing, Nature Walks and Fishing. Dabhosa is recommended for a day or overnight trip with friends in the monsoons.

It is famous for its numerous lakes, cascading waterfalls and charming mountains. The entire ghat is a favorite tourist destination of hikers, trekkers, adventurers and nature lovers.

One of the several streams flowing at the ghats

Furthermore, the typical woody countryside of Malshej ghat is distinguished for its rich flora and fauna, historic forts on rocky mountains, enthralling rivers, meandering waterfalls, resorts and sanctuaries.

A view of the numerous waterfalls at the ghats

The hilltops have countless cascading waterfalls, which add to natural beauty and splendor of the region. With at least 15 waterfalls in the zone of 10 km, the place is very crowded in monsoon during weekends, so make sure you plan accordingly if travelling with family.

During monsoons some of the waterfalls are too big, that they reach the road. It is a sheer joy to walk through the gushing water, which makes waterfall canopies on the road. Rain, mist, fog and the cascading waterfalls amidst of woody forest are an eye catching sight one can never forget for a life time.

Waterfalls spilling all over the highway

Zenith Waterfall is located at Khopoli, near the Zenith Factory. It is a popular destination during the monsoon season, because of its proximity to Mumbai and Pune and the ease of reaching the falls.

A view of Zenith Waterfalls from a distance

Once tourists reach Khopoli, a short trek will lead you towards the waterfalls. Tourist must avoid wearing shoes as one has to wade through running waters and small streams, so ideally wear floaters to navigate through the cold streams, both narrow and wide that are knee high. All this adventure adds to the charm of Zenith Waterfall.

Water streams flowing from the falls

After crossing the streams, tourist have to trek for about 10 minutes through a woody and dense section before they will get views and sounds of the falls, before reaching it.

Trekking through the streams to reach the falls

Finally when you reach the waterfall, you can enjoy the breath taking views as the water falls from a 30 feet. Tourists are advised to be careful as the stones near the waterfall are mossy and slippery. The Zenith Waterfall is about 30 feet high and is only active during monsoon and attracts a large crowd during weekends.

The water is ice cold and one can barely stand below the waterfall as the pressure was is too much. Zenith waterfall is an ideal place to visit and have a good close up view of a waterfall that is not too far away from Mumbai.

Tourist enjoy themselves at the falls.

The waterfall has been part of many Bollywood movie song sequences. Ideally visit the waterfalls, during weekdays as weekends are crowded. Post monsoon, once the waterfall has dried up the same location becomes a hot-spot for rock-climbing and rappelling.

Timing: Sunrise to Sunset.
Duration: 1 day outing.
Height of the waterfall: 30 feet (10 meters).
Best time to visit: During monsoon season from June to September and post monsoon for adventure sport activities.
Entry Fee: No charge.
Open days: All days of the week.
Visit Duration: 2 – 3 hours.
Photography: Allowed.

For Bookings for a visit to Zenith Waterfalls PLEASE CLICK HERE

How to Reach

By Train:

Zenith waterfalls can be visited during monsoon season and is located in the quaint town of Khopoli near Mumbai. The best and economical way to reach is by using the services of the local trains. Tourist can board a train in Central Railway Line that is bound for Khopoli(Beyond Karjat).

A view of Khopoli Railway Station

The journey by train will take you about 2 hours 40 minutes from Mumbai, all depending on the where they start their journey. Tourists are advised to check the railway time-table as trains for Khopoli are very limited. Alternatively, tourist can also reach Karjat and board a shuttle train moving towards Khopoli.

After reaching Khopoli, tourist can alight at the western side of the station. From here there are 2 ways to reach the falls; one is to take a short trek (30 minutes) to the falls, while other way is to board an Auto rickshaw which will drop tourist at about 200 meters from the falls.

But trekking is ideal during monsoon as the weather is perfect for a walk into the wilderness offering beautiful views of the numerous smaller waterfalls and scenery in the region.

By Car:

Khopoli is about 30 km from Panvel on the Old Bombay-Pune Highway.

Once you reach Khopoli, Check for the directions at Khopoli and turn off the highway after a bus stand. The falls has been named Zenith because of its proximity to Zenith Company.

Activities

Enjoy a picnic with friends and family.

Swimming

Trekking

Photography

Rock Climbing (Post Monsoon)

Rappelling (Post Monsoon)

Beware

It is advisable not to enter deep into the water pool created at the base of the waterfalls as there have been several cases of drowning in the past due to the slippery nature of the rocks and the force of the waterfalls. Expect large crowds on public holidays and weekends.

Where to Eat

Just at the entrance of the waterfalls there are a few make shift stalls selling tea (chai), roasted corn, vada pav and cold drinks. It is advisable to carry your own snacks and water.

Camping

There is no official arrangement or infrastructure for camping at the water falls.

Camping at the base of the falls

There are 2 river streams, which you need to cross and few waterfalls on the way which u can enjoy while reaching the main falls.

The trail that leads to the waterfalls

Both streams have cold water crystal clear and fresh which has rounded white stones and few pebbles around the muddy corners on either sides.

It also provides a nice trekking experience as its a up hill climb through lush greenery on both the sides of the muddy road. The place is spread widely and there is plenty to explore. Make sure you take safety precautions since flash floods are common during rainy season.

A water snake near the falls makes a wonderful click

The area has been declared as Tungareshwar Forest Park since the year 2003 and the forest area is 85.70 square kilometer. There are several small and big waterfalls, while the biggest the big waterfall plunges from a height of 100 feet.

The place is a popular picnic spot amongst Mumbaikars and remains crowded during Saturdays and Sundays. It is a good place to do some basic trekking, as the place is scenic, and has a few small treks around and to the the waterfalls.
