A trip that will take you away from the banality of city life and help you refresh your outlook towards life.  Witness the simplicity of the village life of Kovalam which is right at the heart of Kerala which ushers us into a world where contentment and peace prevails.

Starting point is Responsible Tourism Office, Kovalam Junction. There will be a guide who will accompany you through the tour and will show you around. You can opt for the stopovers and have your trip customized as per your choice.

This Unique initiative of Kerala Tourism's Responsible Tourism department makes sure that the profits post-expenses are shared with the Locals and hence, the tourism initiative benefits the locals of the villages too.

There are two Options Available:

Thanal zero waste centre: It is a unit where coconut and paper waste are transformed into beautiful handicrafts and other useful products.

The dairy farm: Discover the real livestock farming. All the milk lovers, you shouldn’t miss the milk unit as you can try some fresh milk there something which is rare otherwise!

Creche: There is a creche in Angavadi which provides primary education to the local children. It is also the nodal centre for the implementation of various schemes of government for the development of women and children.

Coconut shell products unit: witness the magic of converting coconut shells into innumerable number of products like soap dish, rings, visiting card holders, show pieces etc.

Kathakali mask unit: Poornima SGSY is a Kathakali mask unit run by a group of ladies who endeavor to keep this dying art alive. You can see the various stages in the mask making process.

Weaving unit: You can see the making of traditional silk sarees and dhotis first hand.

Copra unit: Here you can witness the bi products like oil and oil cakes being processed from coconuts.

Vellayani Lake: The largest fresh water lake of Thiruvananthapuram district, the Vellayani Lake is a popular tourist spot and a source of water to the agricultural fields nearby.

Vegetable farms: The nearby vegetable farm offers a great view and displays a variety of products are put on display. After being introduced to different farming procedures and agro-farming activities remember to pick a few locally produced vegetables and freshly picked bananas.

Vizhinjam fishing harbor: It is 3 Km from Kovalam beach is a natural port close to international shipping route. You can also witness the weaving of delicate fishing nets from the locally available materials.

Coir village: Panathurakadavu is where you can see the age old process of making coir products

YDM Kalari sangham: YDM Kalari introduces you to the world of  kalaripayattu the ancient martial art form of Kerala. The various Kalari techniques such as Urumipayattu, Vaalpayattu, Kurwadipaya etc are practiced to perfection here.
