There are basically two types of inhabitants in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, viz. the Indian community and the aboriginals (native tribal’s)The aboriginals, the original inhabitants ruled these islands for centuries and they developed no particular cuisine, even today they rely on old traditional hunting methods for food and live a secluded existence away from the modern world.

However, the Indian population settled here is from main land India and they migrated to the Andaman Islands from places like Punjab, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu etc. As they moved into the islands they brought with them their rich culture and cuisines, hence today the island has become a melting pot of several cultures and different cuisines from all over the world.

There are no special cuisines of Andaman and Nicobar; here tourist will find many restaurants offering authentic cuisines of North India, South India, Chinese, Mexican, Israeli and Continental food items.
