Detailed Description

Zenith Waterfall is located at Khopoli, near the Zenith Factory. It is a popular destination during the monsoon season, because of its proximity to Mumbai and Pune and the ease of reaching the falls. 

 

 

 

Once tourists reach Khopoli, a short trek will lead you towards the waterfalls. Tourist must avoid wearing shoes as one has to wade through running waters and small streams, so ideally wear floaters to navigate through the cold streams, both narrow and wide that are knee high. All this adventure adds to the charm of Zenith Waterfall. 

 

 

 

After crossing the streams, tourist have to trek for about 10 minutes through a woody and dense section before they will get views and sounds of the falls, before reaching it.

 

 

 

Finally when you reach the waterfall, you can enjoy the breath taking views as the water falls from a 30 feet. Tourists are advised to be careful as the stones near the waterfall are mossy and slippery. The Zenith Waterfall is about 30 feet high and is only active during monsoon and attracts a large crowd during weekends.

 

 

 

The water is ice cold and one can barely stand below the waterfall as the pressure was is too much. Zenith waterfall is an ideal place to visit and have a good close up view of a waterfall that is not too far away from Mumbai. 

 

 

 

The waterfall has been part of many Bollywood movie song sequences. Ideally visit the waterfalls, during weekdays as weekends are crowded. Post monsoon, once the waterfall has dried up the same location becomes a hot-spot for rock-climbing and rappelling.

How to reach:

 

By Train:

 

 

Zenith waterfalls can be visited during monsoon season and is located in the quaint town of Khopoli near Mumbai. The best and economical way to reach is by using the services of the local trains. Tourist can board a train in Central Railway Line that is bound for Khopoli(Beyond Karjat).

 

 

 

The journey by train will take you about 2 hours 40 minutes from Mumbai, all depending on the where they start their journey. Tourists are advised to check the railway time-table as trains for Khopoli are very limited. Alternatively, tourist can also reach Karjat and board a shuttle train moving towards Khopoli.

 

 

 

After reaching Khopoli, tourist can alight at the western side of the station. From here there are 2 ways to reach the falls; one is to take a short trek (30 minutes) to the falls, while other way is to board an Auto rickshaw which will drop tourist at about 200 meters from the falls.
But trekking is ideal during monsoon as the weather is perfect for a walk into the wilderness offering beautiful views of the numerous smaller waterfalls and sceneries in the region.

 

 

By Car:

 

 

Khopoli is about 30 km from Panvel on the Old Bombay-Pune Highway.

 

 

Once you reach Khopoli, Check for the directions at Khopoli and turn off the highway after a bus stand. The falls has been named Zenith because of its proximity to Zenith Company.

Beware:

 

 

It is advisable not to enter deep into the water pool created at the base of the waterfalls as there have been several cases of drowning in the past due to the slippery nature of the rocks and the force of the waterfalls. Expect large crowds on public holidays and weekends.

 

 

Where to Eat:

 

 

Just at the entrance of the waterfalls there are a few make shift stalls selling tea (chai), roasted corn, vada pau and cold drinks. It is advisable to carry your own snacks and water. 

 

 

Camping:

 

 

There is no official arrangement or infrastructure for camping at the water falls.

 

 

But adventure enthusiast seeking adventure can try their luck and seek permission from the local authorities and enjoy a camp near the falls.

While visiting Zenith Waterfalls please do not litter and help keep the nature and surroundings clean by carrying back your thrash and disposing it in a decent manner. 

 

 

Also do not pollute the water as it is an important source of water for the people living in the nearby villages.
